Yamaha Bamboo Snare

I have a 14x6.5 and i absolutely love it. I first heard of the bamboo snare when i attented a clinic last May put on by Peter Erskine and loved the sound so much that i had to ask him what type of snare it was.
About 6 months later i finally decided to buy one and ended up with the exact snare that Peter played at the clinic!!
I have also received many many compliments on the sound from different people i've gigged with.
That purchase is tied with my Ayotte's for best drum purchase i've ever made.

Matricks- I use my bamboo for pop gigs. I crank the batter head up a bit and tighten the snares a hair. Also, I put die-cast hoops on mine, so there's some added punch on mine. But in the end, I guess it's mostly a personal opinion. But like I wrote- I think it can be used for almost any style of music

Speaking of pop gigs- not to change the subject- someone mentioned the Julia Fordham show they're playing on DirecTV this month- Man alive, Vinnie is playing really tasty backbeats. Mostly simple stuff, but still an occasional Vinnie-ism popping up. Also- anyone notice that's Larry Klein on bass? It's the '83 Joni Mitchell rhythm section reunited...

Groovemeister- Haven't done studio stuff with it- only live recordings. Erskoman could probably tell you

Can you get a nice 'crack' out of it? I would wonder about that cause it is such a 'woody' drum... so much warmth!

Can it cut though when you crank it? I wonder if you could get a dry enough, high enough, cut from it when you really tighten that bad-boy up.
